7th Dan Black Belt

Head Master with 37+ years of training and 20+ years of teaching experience.

Head Master Jonghyun Yi has dedicated his life to martial arts since beginning his training at the age of 4. Inspired by his father—an instructor in the Korean Army who later immigrated to Massachusetts—Master Yi pursued his dream of becoming a martial arts master from an early age. By the age of 17, Master Yi had already earned his 1st Dan and made history by becoming one of only two athletes from Massachusetts to win a gold medal at the Korean-American Olympic Festival. He currently holds a 7th Dan in Taekwondo, 6th Dan in Hapkido, and 6th Dan in Gumdo, along with a USAT Level 1 Coach certification and a Global Coach License (World Taekwondo) for both Poomsae and Sparring. With over 37 years of training and 20+ years of teaching experience, Master Yi also studied Physical Education and Child Psychology at the university level. His philosophy is to “walk the walk” and inspire students not only to succeed in martial arts but to excel in life. Under his guidance, students of Evolution Martial Arts have gone on to prestigious universities such as Oxford, MIT, Tufts, Wellesley, Purdue, Northeastern, and Boston University.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Evolution Martial Arts family. Thank you, Head Master Jonghyun Yi Evolution Martial Arts
